The Hughes-created XF-11 long-range reconnaissance plane is a good example of the freedom that was brought about by a wartime atmosphere and a government willing to throw just about anything into projects that could speed the conclusion of the war. The XF-11 was no exception though it ran into troubles all its own and was beaten out by equally capable platforms already in service.
