Yesterday I blogged about about Iran’s plan to buy new fighter jets from China and today it’s interesting to find that the USA is planning to sell F-35 Warplanes to Israel. What I find intriguing is the fact that Israel has an advanced technology called Lavi which is being used in their J-10 fighter jets and wonder why they chose F-35 instead.

It’s the Pentagon that will supply the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter to Israel in early 2012. Israel is one of the 8 nations that has partnered with the USA to manufacture those radar-evading jets.

“This plane can fly into downtown Tehran without anyone even knowing about it since it can’t be detected on radar,” the conservative daily quoted a defense official as saying.

Iran has come to an agreement with the Chinese authorities to buy 24 j-10 fighter jets scheduled for 2008-2010. These jets uses the Israel’s Lavi fighter jet technology that has been sold to China.

The J-10 has a range of approximately 3 kilometers compared to Iran’s current MiG-29 that has only 2.1 kilometers. “Iran plans to use these new aircrafts for its defense of the Bushehr nuclear plan in case of any possible attack” said a Russian military expert.

These Israeli fighter jets were developed in the 1980s, but the project has been canceled following political pressure from the USA which viewed it as a competitive threat with its F-16.
